Atone

My responsibilities during this project included Level Design, Systems Design, UI Design and Sound Design.

This project saw my technical skills within the Unity engine and C# grow hugely as I was in charge of Systems Design. I designed, programmed and implemented each gameplay mechanic. This includes the movement system and the player abilities.

My Level Design skillset was expanded also, as it was my first experience building levels with a modular kit provided by the team's artists. I also experimented with using light and weenies to lead the player through the level rather than a minimap. This was to reduce UI clutter.

I also designed and implemented the UI for the game. This helped me explore minimalistic UI and gain some insight into the job of a UI designer.

I worked closely with a music production student to create the music for the game in order to generate a great ambient feel.

I created all SFX in the game in order to create a more immersive experience.

Overall this project helped me become a more T-shaped designer and has enabled me to become more familiar with Unity in general.

I have provided a game trailer and a gallery of images of the game levels that show the game mechanics and the use of lighting and weenies.

The first level features more plants and nature and acts as a tutorial level to teach the player the game's mechanics. It has large patches of long grass that the player can hide in. It is fairly open and uses torch light to guide the player towards where they need to go.

The second level is heavily militarized with burnt down trees and grass to provide some environmental storytelling. It features many different levels of elevation using shipping containers and features multiple ways to infiltrate the enemy base. This helps to improve player agency.
